Secretary General, Pakistan Muslim League

Mushahid Hussain Sayed was elected as the Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League in July 2009. In 2008 General Elections, the Pakistan Muslim League emerged as the 2nd highest vote getter in the country, in terms of popular votes. The Pakistan Muslim League received 8 million votes, while PPP received 10.5 million votes, and the PML-N obtained 6.8 million votes. The Pakistan Muslim League has representation in the National Assembly and the Senate, as well as the Provincial Assemblies and the Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan.

He was elected as a Senator for a 6 year term from the Federal Capital, Islamabad in February 2012. This is his third tenure as a Senator.

Chairman, Pakistan-China Institute

Being an old friend of China since 1970, which he first visited as a teenager during the Cultural Revolution, Mushahid Hussain Sayed is the founder and Chairman of Pakistan-China Institute which he launched in October 2009. Pakistan-China Institute is the first-of-its-kind non-governmental, non-partisan and non-political Think Tank, which aims to promote, strengthen and expand Pakistan-China friendship in all sectors of national development.

Pakistan-China Institute works in key sectors of the Pakistani state and society including political parties, civil society, educational institutions, opinion leaders, media and business community. It also conducts policy research on promoting Pakistan-China cooperation and bringing the two countries closer in such areas as Security (diplomacy, defence and foreign policy), Trade, Investment and Economy, Energy, Education, Youth and Women, and Culture.

Chairman, Senate Defence & Defence Production Committee

The Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production was last reconstituted on June 4, 2012. The Committee has a total membership of twelve senators. It has a distinguished membership of experienced parliamentarians and public figures, and has the responsibility of oversight of executive functions of the Ministries of Defence and Defence Production.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed is the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production.
