PML Leaders briefed Arab Ambassadors on political situation

Islamabad, April 23, 2013:  The leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League briefed the Arab Ambassadors in Islamabad today regarding the political scenario.  The PML delegation was led by Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and it included Senator Wasim Sajjad and Senator Mushahid Hussain.  Fifteen Arab Ambassadors were present on the occasion and the briefing was hosted over lunch by the Ambassador of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Said Hindam.

Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain referred to the role of the PML in promoting the politics of harmony and reconciliation and a political culture that rejected revenge and brought the various parties and provinces together.  Chaudhry Shujat Hussain said that the people of Pakistan had great love and affection for the Arab people in the support of Muslim solidarity and Pakistani people fondly recall the historical moment when in April 1974, the Islamic Summit was hosted in Lahore.

Providing salient features of the PML Manifesto, Senator Mushahid Hussain said that the PML Manifesto talked of regional cooperation between Pakistan and the Gulf countries, Pakistan fully supported the cause of Palestine and this was the only manifesto among all the political parties of Pakistan which welcomes the Arab Spring as a positive factor upholding democratic principles.

Senator Wasim Sajjad said that Pakistan was the only country in the world whose constitution clearly specified that “relations with Muslim world are its top priority”.  The briefing was followed by an interesting Q&A session that continued over lunch and the total time of the meeting was three and a half hours.  The Arab Ambassadors appreciated the informative and candid comments of the PML leadership and wished them all the best in the forthcoming elections.  Senator Mushahid Hussain mentioned that it was the first election in which the establishment was not playing any direct or indirect role and neither was there any involvement in the electoral process.
