Mushahid says rising China plus for Asian Century, balance of power shifting from West to East.

Islamabad, September 11, 2011:  The Secretary General of the Pakistan Muslim League, Mushahid Hussain Sayed has welcomed the peaceful rise of China as a plus for the 21st Century which is an "Asian Century", as the balance of economic and political power shifting from the West to the East.

He made these remarks while addressing a conference jointly organized by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) which was held in Nanning to coincide with the celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the CPC.  Mushahid Hussain, who is also Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute, was elected Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Conference in which capacity he helped in the writing of the Nanning Declaration.

Mushahid Hussain praised the CPC for its great achievement of bringing unity and stability to China, lifting 500 million people out of poverty within a generation and presiding over the peaceful political transition to a 5th generation of Chinese leaders which is due in 2012.

The Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute also said that Asian countries should share experiences and learn from each other, ensuring that "the fruits of development are delivered to all".  He welcome the movement against corruption in India led by veteran activist Anna Hazare, adding that citizens activism as well as the role of civil society organizations vividly demonstrated the power of public opinion of the Asian voiceless, the downtrodden and the middle classes.  He also urged the Asian political parties to play a role on such issues as climate change, environment and poverty alleviation while seeking to provide good governance so that the credibility of the political system must be retained among the people.

The ICAPP conference was attended by 150 delegates from 23 political parties of 27 Asian countries.  During the conference, the PML leader was received by Mr. Zhou Yongking, one of the top leaders of the CPC as well as Mr. Wang Jiaruy, Minister of the International Department of the CPC.
